Will our behavior products work for you?

How do Behavior Buddies products differ from other behavior charts?

One of the biggest differences between our products and other behavior charts available is they are simple, customizable, and flexible. Parents can feel comfortable using our products in ways that fit their family's lifestyle. Instead of dictating exactly how and when each product is used, we give parents the freedom to use them in ways that meet their children's developmental and behavioral needs.

How old does my child have to be to use your behavior products?

Our products have been successfully used with children as young as three. Because all of our behavior products use illustrations and are simple in design, young children--as well as those with disabilities--are able to use our products successfully.

My child has ADHD and autism. Can these products really help us?

Yes, they really can. These products were originally developed with children with special needs in mind. Since then, they have been used by both typically developing children and those with disabilities such as ADHD, Autism, Down Syndrome, Asperger Disorder and many others. The key to this system is that it is flexible enough to meet different children's developmental needs while keeping things simple, straight-forward, and organized. Behavior Buddies products provide structure, consistency, and predictability to children's environments in a visual format that compliments parent's words, which often can help them concentrate and learn more.

My child can't read. Can I still use these products?

Most definitely! Because our products are visually based, children as young as three have successfully learned what each illustration means. Before you start using any product, show each picture to your child and ask him/her what it means. You may be surprised how much they understand without being able to read. And if there are some pictures they do not understand at first, explain them. After seeing the pictures for a few days, they most likely will be able to remember the meaning of each.

Does my child have to be "out of control" to use these products?

Absolutely not. All children, regardless of how they behave before starting to use any Behavior Buddies product, can benefit from positive, consistent parenting. All children like to be acknowledged when they are behaving well. Even well-behaved children enjoy seeing their progress and can learn responsibility and a sense of pride when they see how their good behavior translates into privileges, rewards, and positive attention.

Am I a bad parent because I need help?

Definitely not! Although it often seems to us that we are expected to know everything about parenting from the moment our child is born, asking questions--and for help when needed--is a hallmark of good parenting. Good parents are those who can identify problem areas and try to find solutions. Taking responsibility for your parenting by seeking solutions and support is one of the most important things you can do to help your entire family.

Why do all Behavior Buddies products focus so much on what I do as a parent?

No child grows up in a vacuum. Often what we do as parents can make a big difference in how our children behave. It's not the only factor, of course, but it is one we as parents can control. By being consistent, rewarding good behavior, and following through on consequences for not-so-good behavior, we can teach our children a lot about how to be responsible for themselves, and how their different choices result in different outcomes.
